Accelerated TMS
Challenge
Patients with severe depression or those who cannot commit to a traditional multi-week TMS protocol often need faster relief to restore their quality of life.
Solution
Our Accelerated TMS protocol delivers 10 TMS treatments per day for five consecutive days, offering the same total stimulation as a standard TMS protocol but in a condensed time frame. This approach is designed for individuals seeking rapid improvement in mood and function.
Results
Studies on Accelerated TMS show similar efficacy to standard TMS in reducing depressive symptoms, with many patients experiencing improvement within days. This rapid protocol offers a convenient solution for those needing quick, effective care.
For frequently asked questions, please see the below:
What is Accelerated TMS?
Accelerated TMS is a non-invasive treatment for depression where patients receive multiple
transcranial magnetic stimulation sessions per day — sometimes up to 10 — over 1 to 2 weeks,
based on provider guidance. Each session lasts about 10 minutes with breaks in between. The
treatment stimulates targeted brain areas and promotes neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to
adapt and form new connections — which can improve mood, thinking, movement, and even
potentially help with pain relief.
What are the advantages of Accelerated TMS?
Accelerated TMS offers the same benefits and safety profile as standard TMS, an FDA-approved
treatment for Major Depressive Disorder. The main difference is speed — instead of 6–8 weeks, the
full course is done in about a week. This allows for potentially faster symptom relief, making it ideal
for those seeking quicker results.
What is the scientific evidence behind Accelerated TMS?
Accelerated TMS has been extensively studied in both research and clinical settings. Most notably,
Stanford’s SAINT (Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy) program showed
nearly 80% of participants with severe depression achieved rapid remission. The SAINT protocol
used multiple daily sessions to deliver high-dose stimulation to targeted brain areas using fMRI. At
Modern Minds Health, we apply advanced neuronavigation technology to precisely target these
areas—without the need for fMRI—using evidence-based brain mapping to deliver fast, effective
results.
Accelerated TMS Right for You?
This breakthrough treatment may be a great option if you:
- Want a non-invasive, drug-free option
- Haven’t found relief with talk therapy
- Struggle with side effects from antidepressants
- Are seeking faster results
What should I expect at my Accelerated TMS treatment sessions?
You’ll receive 5 to 10 brief sessions daily, each under 10 minutes, with about 50-minute breaks in
between. Treatments are done while you sit comfortably. Since there’s no sedation, you can walk
around or relax nearby between sessions. The MMH clinic office is conveniently located close to
several restaurants and coffee shops.
What are the possible side effects?
The side effect profile is similar to that of traditional TMS, which is considered to be a very safe
outpatient treatmen.. Common side effects are mild and include headache, scalp discomfort, or
fatigue — often improving as treatment continues.
Is Accelerated TMS covered by insurance?
At this time, Accelerated TMS is not covered by most insurance carriers. Given the effectiveness of
Accelerated TMS, we are hopeful that it will be covered by insurance in the future.
