Why we exist

We believe psychiatry can be better.

Modern Minds Health brings together experienced clinicians, evidence-based care, and advanced treatments to help people move forward.

The standard path for depression is a prescription, a follow-up in six weeks, and a shrug if it did not help. Try another. Then another. Years go by and nobody ever writes down whether anything actually moved.

We built Modern Minds Health around the opposite premise. Every treatment that is proven to work for depression that resists medication lives in this one building, so nobody gets referred into a six-month waitlist somewhere else. A provider decides which one fits, and we score the same standardized measures at every single visit so both of us can see whether it is working.

That is also why we will tell you when we are not the right answer. An honest no is more useful than a treatment plan that was never going to help.

“My goal is not simply to prescribe a treatment. It is to understand what has not worked, what matters to you, and use the best evidence we have to decide what we should do next.”

Hammad Khan, MD, MPH · Founder and Medical Director

Credentials

Board-certified in psychiatry, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

MD and MPH, UC Davis School of Medicine

Chief Resident, UC Davis Psychiatry

Advanced TMS training, Duke University

ECT training, Emory University

Dr. Khan earned his MD and MPH at UC Davis and stayed for residency, serving as Chief Resident before returning as volunteer clinical faculty.

He went on to advanced training in transcranial magnetic stimulation through Duke University and electroconvulsive therapy through Emory. Much of his career has been spent translating advances in neuroscience into treatments patients can actually get to, in real clinics, covered by real insurance.

He brought the SAINT accelerated TMS protocol to Sacramento before anyone else here offered it, then did the same with AMPA 1-Day TMS.

He also serves as Director of Interventional Psychiatry at Sutter Center for Psychiatry and Associate Program Director of Sutter’s Sacramento psychiatry residency. His accelerated TMS work at Sutter was named a 2026 Project of the Year, and his research has appeared in The Lancet Planetary Health.
